Venezuelan Surrealist Painter
José Luis Aldana is a Venezuelan surrealist painter known for mosaic-like compositions, radiant colors, and floating figures. His dreamlike canvases disrupt perspective and invite viewers into worlds of imagination and symbolism.
Biography
Born in Venezuela in 1952, José Luis Aldana is a contemporary painter celebrated for his surreal, mosaic-like compositions filled with vibrant colors and floating figures. His works construct dreamscapes where logic and perspective are intentionally disrupted, allowing imagination and symbolism to take center stage.
Aldana studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas Martín Tovar y Tovar in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. His European travels expanded his vision: in France, he pursued drawing studies in Toulouse, and in London, he studied the English language while exploring the city’s art scene.
His artistic language blends mosaic-like structures with baroque arrangements of figures, animals, and objects. These elements float within radiant, layered environments that defy rational order, engaging the viewer in discovery. By combining vibrant palettes with surreal imagery, Aldana creates works that are at once playful and profound.
Over the years, Aldana has exhibited internationally, gaining respect within the Latin American and European art scenes. His paintings are held in private and public collections, reflecting a career that bridges Venezuelan tradition with contemporary surrealism.
