Nostalgic Retro Pop & Mid-Century Modernism
Tracy Hamer is an international artist celebrated for vibrant, retro-nostalgic paintings that blend mid-century glamour with a subversive modern edge. Her iconic "bathing cap beauties" and sun-soaked holiday scenes serve as a cinematic visual anchor for luxury interiors.
Biography
Tracy Hamer’s art is a deep dive into the glamour and curated facades of the 1950s and 60s. Inspired by her global travels and a vast personal collection of vintage artifacts, she masterfully depicts subjects in classic bikinis, cat-eye sunglasses, and vibrant swimming caps. However, beneath the polished, colorful surfaces of her canvases lies a clever undercurrent of subversion. Tracy is fascinated by the tension between the image we present to the world and our raw, unguarded reality, capturing those subtle glances that betray a curated exterior.
With a career spanning over two decades, Tracy’s journey as an artist is as international as her subject matter. After earning her BFA from Syracuse University, she moved to Florence, Italy, to pursue advanced studies in painting and printmaking. This classical training, combined with years spent living in Bali and traveling through Asia, has infused her work with a unique "tropical retro" soul. Her striking imagery has earned significant professional acclaim, appearing in popular television shows like the BBC’s The Outlaws and hanging in luxury international hotels like the W Hotel in Bali.
